About Kids Can Sing
Our origins:
Kids Can Sing was born from a deeply personal journey. Growing up in a conservative town, our founder experienced firsthand the barriers that prevent many children from accessing the transformative power of music and the arts. Financial constraints made extracurricular performing arts experiences out of reach, and being neurodivergent led to feelings of isolation and exclusion. Despite a passion for musical theatre and choir, opportunities were limited and competitive, leaving a sense of longing for creative expression and community. It was only in college, after finally participating in a full musical production, that the realization struck: arts education should be accessible, welcoming, and affordable for every child, regardless of their background or identity. This conviction inspired the creation of Kids Can Sing—a place where no child is left out, and every voice is valued.
Our purpose:
At Kids Can Sing, our fundamental purpose is to break down the barriers that prevent children from experiencing the joy, growth, and connection that music and the arts provide. We exist to ensure that every child in the Central Valley—regardless of socioeconomic status, race, religion, gender identity, sexuality, or ability—has the opportunity to discover their voice, build confidence, and develop lifelong skills through high-quality, community-based arts education.
We are motivated by the belief that music is a universal language that unites, heals, and empowers. Our work is driven by a commitment to:
· Empowering Every Child Through Music: We strive to help every child realize their creative potential and self-worth.
· Championing Equal Access: We are dedicated to making music and arts education affordable and accessible to all, removing financial and social barriers.
· Fostering Lifelong Skills: We aim to nurture not only musical talent but also confidence, teamwork, empathy, and self-expression—skills that benefit children throughout their lives.
· Building Community: We believe in the power of community engagement to create supportive, inclusive environments where children and families feel they belong.
We are here to create lasting, positive change in the lives of our students and the cultural fabric of our region.
Our Values:
Our values are the foundation of everything we do. They guide our decisions, shape our programs, and define our relationships with students, families, staff, and the wider community.
· Inclusivity: We welcome and celebrate every child, embracing diversity in all its forms and ensuring that everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
· Community: We foster strong connections within our local area, engaging families, educators, and partners to build a supportive network for our students.
· Diversity: We honor and reflect the rich cultural backgrounds of our students, integrating diverse perspectives and traditions into our curriculum and activities.
· Growth: We are committed to the personal, artistic, and social development of every student, encouraging curiosity, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning.
· Accessibility: We work tirelessly to remove barriers—financial, social, or otherwise—so that all children can participate fully in our programs.
These values are not just words; they are lived out daily in our classrooms, rehearsals, and community events.
